Hello and welcome to the Cooking with Rachael Ray blog. My pal Diane and I are determined to spend the year 2006 cooking our way through all 366 recipes in Ms. Ray's new book "365:No Repeats, A Year of Deliciously Different Dinners."
I'm looking through this book and a lot of these recipes call for hot sauce, jalapenos, and some ingredients that I've never even heard of. This is going to be a shock to my family who are used to meat and potatoes, but hey - what's the point of doing this if you aren't going to recreate the recipes exactly as written, right?
So we will be sharing our own and our families opinions of these recipes, as well as exactly how long it really takes to make each of these meals, which Rachael promises can be made in "30 minutes or less".
Here is my shopping list for Week 1. Caution: this list assumes that you have very basic ingredients in your house already - like extra virgin olive oil, flour, milk, salt and pepper. Other than that, here goes ...
1 baguette
unsalted butter
1/2 lb. deli-sliced ham
1/4 lb. bacon
1 & 1/3 lb ground turkey
3 lbs ground sirloin
1 lb chorizo (my chef book tells me that this is a spicy sausage)
9 large eggs
hot sauce (!)
4 deli-slices of swiss cheese
3 cups of grated sharp yellow cheddar cheese
3 cups of grated sharp white cheddar cheese
smoked cheddar
smoked gouda
1 cup of sour cream
3 large Idaho potatoes
1 head cauliflower
1 head broccoli
carrots
celery
2 medium onions
2 sm. red peppers
2 chipolte peppers or chipolte powder (!)
smoked paprika or paprika & cumin
thyme leaves
chives
3 cups chicken stock
2 cups beef stock
1 15oz can of diced fire-roasted tomatoes
1 lb elbow macaroni
1/2 lb wide egg noodles
smoked almonds (!)
dijon mustard
Well, I'm off to the store. Wish me luck finding this stuff. Keep posted!
